So I’m officially no longer an Office Manager and am working as a Freelance Makeup Artist for a photography studio in Hollingbourne, Kent.
I know that the shine will wear off at some point and that I will encounter some difficult clients on occasion but it’s already proving to be the most rewarding job I’ve had. It makes me feel all squishy inside to see the ladies grow in confidence throughout the photoshoot and knowing that I’ve had a small part in that is just the best thing ever.
One of the things I’m meant to do is take a before picture. I’m notoriously bad at remembering to do this so the lovely Kim sent me over a photo of herself with no makeup on.
Once I’ve finished the makeup and attempted to do something with the hair I then chaperone throughout the shoot. I’m hoping to learn the poses so that I can try and look less of a spanner when I pose for photos myself.
Working 2 days a week instead of 3 now free’s me up to work on my business as my girls will be at nursery on one of my days off. I’m keen to try and get some clients booked in for beauty treatments in the day time but I don’t know how likely that will be. My first Thursday to myself consisted of running my daughter to a settle at her school (she starts in September!) Watching a ton of Love Island as I’m severely behind and then attending the same daughters ‘graduation’ from nursery, cue my inability to mingle with other parents but thankfully my husband was there to save me from too much awkwardness.
My eldest had her 4th birthday party on Sunday and we entertained 11 children at our house. I decided against hiring someone in and set up a craft station for the kids and played a couple of party games. Thankfully my Mum and my best friend were on hand to facilitate whilst I fought against the clock to get the food done. I think everyone had a nice time, I definitely should have warned people that I was going to let their children loose with paint though 🙈
I’m super pleased with our present for Florence this year. We revamped her room slightly and got her her first ‘grown up’ bed which I kind of wish I could sleep in because I love it!
The end of this week I’m off to the House of Glamdolls in Highbury again for another course, this time it’s three days purely on eyes. I’m going to be in heaven, fingers crossed the other people on the course aren’t bellends.
And on that note I’ll leave you.
Love and Sparkles 🦄
